The Writer’s Journey Articles – Requesting Articles

You may have already seen a few of the articles that appear some Sundays on this blog. These articles are meant to inspire and help other writers as they begin their journey, and perhaps save them a headache or two. These posts may help readers see what it takes to write a story, publish, and market it from start to finish.

Submission are open for this category of my blog. The articles will stay on top of the blog for one full day. Right now, these are posted once a week. If I receive lots of articles at once, it could go to twice a week.

The guidelines are pretty open, and you may already have an article written that is appropriate. You may have an article sitting on your computer that requires updating so it will represent your current position. These are all fine.

What Makes a Novel a Bestseller?

When you ask a writer how successful they want their novel to be, most will answer they want it to be a bestseller. But what makes a book a bestseller? Are there rules that can be followed to increase a book’s chance of becoming a hit?

Not all bestsellers are well written. Not all bestsellers are recommendable.

Many fantastic stories are forgotten, never heard of, or flop when they hit the shelves.

So what makes a bestseller?

The truth is we really don’t know. We can try to identify commonalities between bestsellers, but at the end of the day Paper Towns is very different from The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and both those novels are nothing like Fifty Shades of Grey.

Don’t be a Bad Writer! Learn What Good Writers Know

Many people talk about bad writing versus good writing. Often the label of “good” or “bad” extends past the writing to the writer. There are many possible reasons as to why one writer may be considered “bad,” while another is thought of as “good.” But what is the main difference between good and bad writers?

Resilience.

Good writers are persistent. They refuse to give up. Bad writers stop when they hit a roadblock.

Most often a writer’s first novel isn’t all that great. Writing takes work, and the more you write, and the more you learn to write, the better you become at it. Writing a novel, short story, etc. is a big feat. However, writing a piece of work is only the first part. Revising and editing a piece comes after. Many times revision takes longer than writing the piece.
