The commotion above deck eventually woke him, as East Wind was made ready by some of the Japanese whalers, acting on the orders of the factory ship’s captain for what both he and they assumed would be her last voyage. Bill peered through the knot hole in the false bulkhead before carefully removing it. Cautiously he looked outside. In the distance he saw a vast factory ship and its attendant whale chasers heading south. His last entry in East Wind’s log had been carried out to the letter! Soon the world’s police forces will no longer be looking for him – that’s if they were in the first place! Better not to tempt fate. Once the factory ship’s captain returned to his home port and delivered East Wind’s log to the appropriate authorities he could relax.
